Services

We offer our services to a wide variety of the industries such as Food related industries, Agricultural related industries, and Water related industries.
Also, we accept subcontracts from other laboratories as well as biotechnology companies.

There are four major areas of testing at our laboratory:

  1. 1. Food
The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), is the most comprehensive reform to Federal food safety laws since 1938. The Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) along with Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are responsible for ensuring that the nation’s commercial supply of food is safe. The goal of these agencies is to ensure the U.S. food supply is safe by preventing the distribution of contaminated food, rather than issuing recalls after the fact. We use FDA Bacteriological Analytical Manual (BAM), USDA Microbiology Laboratory Guidebook (MLG), as well as AOAC (Association of Analytical Communities) approved analytical methods to be in compliance with the aforementioned agencies.
  2. 2. Water
The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) is the main federal law that ensures the quality of Americans’ drinking water. Under SDWA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets standards for drinking water quality and oversees the states, localities, and water suppliers who implement those standards. The Clean Water Act (CWA) establishes the basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into the waters of the United States and regulating quality standards for surface waters.

We are an ELAP certified laboratory for the State of California. The fields of testing that we are certified for are; Microbiology of Drinking Water, Microbiology of Wastewater, Inorganic Chemistry of Drinking Water and Whole Effluent Toxicity of Wastewater.

  3. 3. Environmental

For Food & Pharmaceutical Industries:

Environmental monitoring of surfaces/devices, sterility testing of autoclaves and/or final products, and the detection of objectionable microorganisms are among the most routine tests that we offer.

For Agricultural Industries:

Any crop input that contains animal manure, an animal product, and/or an animal by-product that is reasonably likely to contain human pathogens needs to be tested. Examples include but are not limited to: Compost teas, Fish emulsions, Fish meal, Blood meal, Bio-fertilizers and Soil amendments containing animal manure that has been physically heat treated or processed by other equivalent methods.

The California Leafy Green Products Handler Marketing Agreement (LGMA) requires all the Irrigation Waters, Seeds, Composts, and Fertilizers, for 14 leafy green products to be tested. These leafy green products are; Arugula, Baby Leaf Lettuce, Butter Lettuce, Cabbage (green, red, & savory), Chard, Endive, Escarole, Green Leaf Lettuce, Iceberg Lettuce, Kale, Red Leaf Lettuce, Romaine Lettuce, Spinach, and Spring Mix.

Biosolids:

According to EPA; “Biosolids are the nutrient-rich organic materials resulting from the treatment of sewage sludge (the name for the solid, semisolid or liquid untreated residue generated during the treatment of domestic sewage in a treatment facility). When treated and processed, sewage sludge becomes biosolids which can be safely recycled and applied as fertilizer to sustainably improve and maintain productive soils and stimulate plant growth.” These biosolids need to be tested for fecal coliforms, and human pathogens such as Salmonella.

  1. 4. Microscopy
We offer wide variety of direct microscopic testing on food, water, and other samples.
